Katherine Schaefer Obituary

Katherine "Katie" Faye (nee Smith) Schaefer of West Harrison, passed away on March 30, 2024, at the age of 88.  Katie was born on February 17, 1936, in Harrison, Ohio to Edward and Goldie (nee Otto) Smith.  She grew up on a farm and she was one of 5 Smith Girls.  Growing up, she along with her 4 sisters helped her dad and mom on the family farm.  Katie was a graduate of William Henry Harrison High School and went to work for CG&E after high school.  She enjoyed bowling and playing softball.  As luck would have it her paths crossed with her future husband Carl Schaefer while bowling during a work event and he asked her on a date. At the end of the date, he told her he was going to marry her and that came true on September 22, 1962. Katie and Carl lived in Western Hills area until 2004 when they moved back to Harrison.  She always loved dogs but her love for traveling outweighed that love.  She and Carl enjoyed traveling together and their favorite trips were out West and times trying their luck at casino's.  Katie was one of the kindest ladies you would meet, and she would do anything for you. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Harrison and loved her church family.

Katie is survived by her loving and devoted husband Carl Schaefer; nieces and nephews: Vincent (Barb) & Dennis Andres, James Hinssen, Jennifer (Mark) Schnizer; and several great nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward & Goldie (nee Otto) Smith; sisters: Betty (Vincent) Andres, Janet (Bill) Crum, Anna (Russell) Cole, Dorothy (James) Hinssen; nephew David Andres; and niece: Julie Andres.
