R. Jones Obituary
R. Emogene (nee Austin), age 88 resident of Harrison Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016. She was born in Constance, Kentucky to parents: Clarence & Rosie (nee Peeno) Austin and had 3 brothers. Emogene spent her childhood and young adult life in Kentucky. She attended Eastern Kentucky University and received a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. EKU is where she met her husband, Eugene. After graduation, they both began to teach at Silver Grove, in Kentucky. In the mid 1950's, they moved to Harrison Ohio. Emogene began teaching 2nd grade at Harrison Elementary and continued to teach there until she retired. She was an extremely caring person who was extremely passionate about reading. She wanted to be sure that all children understood what they were reading, and not just going through the motions. Emogene taught Sunday School for many years, loved to sing in the choir, and play the organ and piano. In her later years, she was very involved with the Harrison Senior Center. She was part of the group who would entertain the others and make nursing home visits to sing with the choir. Emogene was the president of the resident's council at the Mt. Healthy Christian Village where she lived the past 2 years.
Those surviving who will honor her memory include loving son: Lyndon Gene Jones; loving brother: Robert Austin; and dear sister-in-law: Eloise Gabbert.
She was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband: Eugene Jones; and brothers: Harold, & Franklin Austin.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 6-8PM, at the Brater-Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, Ohio 45030. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 10AM at the Harrison Avenue Baptist Church, Harrison Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the church or to the Mt. Healthy Christian Village through the funeral home.
