Matthew Hittinger Obituary

Matthew L., age 62, resident of Okeana Ohio passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. He was born in Cincinnati Ohio on September 6, 1952 to Lester D. & Dorothy (nee Day) Hittinger. Matthew grew up in Finneytown and graduated from Finneytown High School in 1970. During high school, he played many sports including baseball, football, wrestling and was even a State Judo player. He attended the University of Cincinnati for two years and later started his business. Matthew owned Twin Imports on Spring Grove Avenue. He was a mechanic, who was known for working on foreign cars including VW bugs and vans. In 1987 he began dating Joan Griffith. On August 30, 1990 after visiting many antique stores and flea-markets in Pearsburg, Virginia they decided to get married. Matthew was a true outdoorsman. He was an avid large-mouth bass fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer, turkey & grouse. He along with 3 others bought property together in Adams county, on which they built a log cabin and did their hunting. Matthew loved his family, and especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was a very kind and generous man, who will be missed by many.
Those surviving who will honor his memory include his loving wife: Joan (nee Griffith); cherished children: Michelle (Brad) Sifri, Michael (Thu) Nickel, Kelly Nickel, & Kris (Ashley) Ackner; devoted grandchildren: Stefani & Nikki Sifri, Alex Peels, Joshua, Jakob, Sophia & Rafe Nickel & Noah Ackner; & dear siblings: Diane Cross, Bob (Cherie) Hittinger, David (Jeri) Hittinger, Mark (Janice) Hittinger, Billy (Katie) Halbig, Bobby Halbig, MaryAnn (Paul) Sparrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents & siblings: Gail Foglia & Joe Halbig.
A Gathering of friends will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 11AM until the time of the funeral service at 1PM, at the Miami Whitewater UMC, 9700 Dry Fork Road, Harrison Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Miami Whitewater UMC through the funeral home.
