Matthew Thomas (Matt) Callan, age 57, passed away on November 26, 2014 at Hospice of Cincinnati with family and close friends by his side.
Matt was born on February 7, 1957 to the late Howard (Tom) and Karla (Gretchen) Callan. After graduating from William Harrison High School in 1975 Matt attended the University of Illinois and played football there on a full scholarship. Upon his return to Harrison he began working at Callan Oil Company, eventually becoming owner/CEO. He served his community for many years in various capacities, most memorably as Coach for the Harrison Youth Football Association for more than 20 years. He was inducted into the William Henry Harrison Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. He was also proud of his past membership on the local School Board and his service to the Harrison Democrat Club and Harrison Recreation Commission. He was a member of Snow Lodge #193 in Harrison. Matt was a kind and big- hearted man who loved family, football, fishing in Winneconne, Wisconsin, nature, animals, and the property in Harrison where he was raised and all the members of the many pee wee teams he coached over the years.
Survivors include his sisters Meg (Mike) McVaugh, Sarah (Harold) Shackelford, niece Kaetie McVaugh, cousins Jamie, Beth, and Andy Callan, best friend of 52 years Bill Eckel, loving companion Diane Schuck and a host of other good friends, neighbors, and former pee wee football players.
