George Minges Obituary

George A. Minges, age 95, and lifelong resident of Harrison, Ohio passed away on August 13, 2016. George was born on February 16, 1921 in Harrison to George J and Lena (nee White) Minges. He had one brother Richard and three sisters: Elizabeth, Mary and Catherine. He graduated high school and then went to college earning his Bachelors of Electrical Engineering. He entered the US Navy and served his country with honor during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He met his future bride, Joan M. Schulz, while in the train terminals while they were there picking up their brothers from the service. George and Joan married on August 2, 1947. They were blessed with 4 children: Sue, Steve, Martha and Caroline. George worked for Kroeger for 40 years until retiring in 1986 and then he opened his own Surveying & Engineering Company. He gave back to many local organizations by doing surveying for free. He loved Harrison and supported many organizations: Charter member of the VFW, member of the American Legion, sang in the Choir for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and many other volunteer positions over the years for the church. George enjoyed playing Bridge over the years. He was preceded in death by his loving wife: Joan M. (nee Schulz) Minges; parents: George J and Lena (nee White) Minges; siblings: Elizabeth McElroy, Mary Radcliff, Catherine Baltov and Richard Minges.
He is survived by his devoted children: Sue (Roger) Rolfes, Steve (Lynn) Minges, Martha (Tom) Lambert & Caroline (James Nimz) Minges; Cherished grandchildren: Bill Rolfes, Kelly (Jason) King, Elizabeth Rolfes, Sarah Minges, George Minges, Rebecca Minges, Stephen Minges, and Katherine Lambert; Great grandchildren: Kiley and Jake King and George James Minges.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed., Aug. 17, 2016 at 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Harrison. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, OH 45030. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Harrison Life Squad through the funeral home. You may make your donation at the funeral home during the visitation or mailing it to the funeral home. The funeral home will notify the family of your donation.
